Safety
This race is long and both mentally and physically exhausting. Many potential hazards exist on the Red Eye course and your safety is our number one priority. It will be hot and it will be dark.
Please be smart and use the following tips to be sure you are prepared for this adventure:
• Hydration should be taken seriously, and establishing good habits now will only help you on race day.
• Be sure that while you are hydrating you are also learning to balance your salt intake. Hydrating with sports drinks such as Gatorade can help with this.
• Train well for this race by including hill workouts in your training plan.
• Rules of the road apply at all times for runners and drivers; you must follow stop signs and traffic signals. Traffic will not be stopped for runners or your drivers.
• No runners should be coming or going from any vehicle that is not parked.
• Much of the course is rural and it will be DARK during the nighttime legs; a whistle, pepper spray or other personal safety device is recommended.
• Cellular coverage may not be great so please consider this factor when planning with your team.
• It is ok for team vehicles to shadow your runner, especially after dark, so long as you do not impede traffic or obstruct other runners (impeding in this manner is punishable by penalties).
